Gen.Nardo (John Nardo Bailey) is a professional drummer, music producer, music teacher, and community mentor with decades of experience in the music industry. He is the co-founder of the charity MDMD Arts, established with his brother Ras Elroy Bailey, which supports troubled young people and disaffected families through creative arts and positive engagement.
He has performed alongside legendary artists including Dennis Brown, Trevor Walters, Keith Hudson, Taylor Dayne, and Jimmy Somerville. He is best known as the male member of the mid-1980s band Amazulu, who enjoyed major chart success with hits such as Excitable and Too Good to Be Forgotten.
In recent years, Gen.Nardo has earned recognition as a respected music producer, expanding his sound from reggae into house music. His dance track Who’s The Badman with Dee Pattern gained strong attention, while he continues to mentor and help launch the careers of emerging artists.
His musical journey began early—DJing on his father’s sound system at just 14 years old. By 16, he had launched his own sound system, Black Lion, in Hackney, followed in the early 1980s by King Josiah, playing alongside and sound-clashing with iconic systems such as Sir Coxsone, Jah Shaka, and Moa Ambassa.
Today, Gen.Nardo brings his deep musical roots and experience to LWR Radio, delivering the very best in reggae across its many diverse forms.
