ICE

“Taking the streets and the dance-floors by storm, DJ ICE!” is the perfect compliment and acknowledgment of the versatility of one of the best DJs in clubland. From working his turntable wizardry in parties and small clubs, Ice was spotted by his friend Ellis Quaye who introduced him to Buzz FM in the early 1990s. Ice was the onboard selector to a legendary show which defined the upcoming hip-life music scene. The success of this show gave Ice the much-needed impetus to gain popularity on the club circuit.

PAUL LWR

Born of Jamaican heritage, the youngest of 3 siblings, and a child of the Windrush generation, Paul Williams emerged! His thoughts of playing music – the first being a vinyl disc 45, was triggered by a single turntable stereo on a dressing table sideboard, which was the centerpiece at family gatherings and celebrations at home; his family encouraged him to play at the age of 7 or 8.

JOANNIE JOANNIE

In the late 80’s Joannie was asked by a friend if she would like to do a slot on PCRL a radio station that was very popular in Birmingham. Joannie decided that this would be a good platform for building confidence and showcase her talents to others. Joannie always fancied herself as a DJ as well as a vocalist. Marrying the two together. Joannie also took part in doing jingles for BRMB in the early 80s into the 90s.

ANTHONY BRIGHTLY

It started from primary school, at the age of 9 my mum bought me an organ, and then I joined a band.  Back in those days, everything was very community based, in our area, there was bands, musicians etc.  One day, a friend of mine who lived in our road said there’s a group starting off, (the Jackson 5 who were around those days).  Everyone wanted to be the Jackson 5. The band needed an organists.  We were all young at the time, the oldest was around 15.  So with that we had a group called Mysteron 5.  We did all the Motown stuff with a little reggae here and there.  That lasted for about two years.

LADY SPICE

That’s how Sharon aka LadySpice describes herself as a DJ.  With over 10 year’s experience, she is never afraid to go too deep, her emotive, musical selections are her own therapy.  Having grown up on her family's eclectic combination of funk, Soul, R’n’B, Reggae, Roots, Soca, Dancehall, and Pop music Sharon ended up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influences.  Today, this translates into sets where she infuses together all the pieces of this music that she loves best.

TREVOR SMITH

I was brought up in the 70s in South West London, Battersea to be precise. I remember Dad’s playlist consisting of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Decker, John Holt, to name a few. Friday night was party time, and on the same road that we lived was a house party (shubeen) Dad’s destination, and of course, his selection of music went with him!
