FOUNDERS RICHIE P & MIKE ANTHONY

Richie P and Mike Anthony were both originally mentored by Zak and the iconic sound system Rapattack, with Richie already appearing on LWR prior to forming Rampage with Mike. The two founders in the early days often visited Zak along (with other DJ’s), both practicing or perusing Zak’s vast record collection in the basement studio of his house.

From those early days of course, they went on to join forces to create and lead arguably the most successful street sound system of the 90’s.

From their notorious house parties renown for attracting some of the most beautiful young ladies in London, to RollerExpressRooseberry’s (formerly called Oasis Nightspot at Dalston junction, east london) and the legendary SW1 nights, to shows supporting the big USA Hip-Hop and R&B artists headlining concerts and tours at the time such as Naughty By Nature, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Redman, EPMD, Daz EFX, UMC’s (Ultra Magnetic MC’s), Snoop Doggy Dog, Super Cat (and many more) to being the biggest sound system at the annual Notting Hill Carnival, whose pitch attracts 10,000 plus revellers.

On the radio side of things, after LWR’s switch off, they both followed Zak to WNK (which became the UK’s first Black music station to be granted a broadcasting license and was owned by another former LWR DJ Joe Douglas, before moving to the BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Over the years members have come and gone… j Smoove, DJ Legs, Dr Pyscho (R.E..I.P.), Styles, too name a few. But all, including current members D Nyce, Treble T and Maurice have been an integral part of the rise and development of the Rampage brand.

LWR salutes Richie and Mike, who at the time were the first of the new generation of 90’s trailblazers.
