JAMES ‘2JAY’ MCLAUGHLIN

Background

Every once in a while a man comes along who’s commitment, drive and dedication to his music acts as an inspiration to all those around him.2jay is one such man with a rare spiritual understanding of his music and a gift to be able to form an emotional bond to any crowd over the world.

He knew from the very beginning that his destiny lay in music and began his apprenticeship at the incredibly young age of 13. The year was 1983 and he experimented with a contemporary blend of hip-hop, soul, electro beats honing in on his skills with a mixer and gaining confidence the confidence he needed to move forward. With this period of self-discovery under his belt and just three years on in 1986 he began his real first club experience playing Wednesday nights at the SW1 club in Victoria.
As the 90’s approached his Djing continued and he notched up a string of guest spots all over the clubs in east London where he had grown up and by 1993 he was back in the main stream playing regularly on Sunday at Babushka and moving on to both their other venues on Caledonian road and Brixton.
Just two years later he began what he did not know would become a ten year long collaboration with what is now know as London’s “A LIST” .The A List are a promotional company originally known as Enigma who would propel 2jay career into all the major London venues including The cross, The Egg, Pasha, Rouge, Red Cube and other venues.
Into the millennium 2Jay found himself moving himself into international dj circuit making regular appearances across Europe most notably with regular nights at Sundance, Old town and Bogart’s in Spain alongside the likes of Brandon Block and Alistair Whitehead. Returning to London he found himself invigorated by this experiences and manages to push forward balancing guest appearances across London including the Aquarium with his new two year residency at Red Cube.
His skills here soon got taken notice of and led to further residency opportunity that would span the next four years on Saturday nights at Club Rouge. Along side he managed to fit inn yearly appearances at Notting hill carnival and his newly appointed position as director of Music and promotions for “DTI” one of the major music PR companies in Club land.So what next for the future for 2Jay?
Well despite this incredibly busy10 years his plans are equally as ambitious as in previous years. His is now in the process of recording productions which he hopes will find a release date later this year as well as collecting material and working with artists with the aim of eventually having enough material to produce an album. His first collaborations already signed are with Alan Jinx Chamberlain long time resident of milk and two sugars on a series of singles for the World Wide Gallery.
His Djing is equally busy constantly evolving and breaking new ground; with a continuation of his residency at egg and pacha London he has also found time to schedule other appearances contact :07956679777
