Producer/ DJ TP Coleone was born and raised on the southside of Chicago. he grew up listening to the popular funk bands of the day ie Parliament-Funkadelic, Cameo, Rick James, Prince etc.
He was trained on the piano in school and during his teen years he was exposed to what he described as mix music. “I called it that before the term House was used to describe the scene in which the music was being played”
Once the house scene was in full force, going by the name Derek Tee Pee at the time, he formed a group called The Elect and recorded the song ‘I’m House’, which was a hit in the UK for the summer.
The group soon disbanded and after high school TP studied journalism and recorded hip-hop and house tracks with various artists for a decade. He then left the music business for a brief period after a minor setback and returned as a DJ/Producer using the name TP Coleone. He chose it because it would “inspire me to be more tight and more precise in his art” then he was previously.
After a 4 year run on a popular Chi City Funk show on WHPK Chicago, TP is now on LWR radio. His insight and experience in the continuous evolution of House music gives him a unique approach to his DJ mixes from a dancer’s perspective. So tune into TP’s House if you feel like dancing.
